Get to know me

Hey there, I'm David Bizzaro and my adventure in the entertainment world kicked off at the tender age of twelve. Imagine a middle school renaissance fair where I was cast as the "Doomsday Preacher." Now, why a doomsday preacher? Well, my twelve-year-old mind found it hilariously intriguing, and I decided to audition for the role on a whim. Little did I know that this would be the moment that set the stage for my future.

Picture this: I forgot my lines but dived into improvisation, channeling the spirit of my hero, the legendary Mel Brooks. The result? A crowd gathered, laughter echoed, and I was hooked. In that instant, I wanted a career like Mel's – a path filled with creativity, laughter, and endless possibilities.

Over the next seven years, I ventured into school plays, local commercials, and theater. I even took a detour and found myself randomly hosting a Road Rules Campus Crawl episode – talk about a twist of fate! As I matured, the road to landing roles and securing an agent grew tougher. Casting directors would furrow their brows and question my auditions for Latino roles, doubting my authenticity. "Why are you here for a Mexican role?" they'd ask. "Because I am Latino," I'd reply, met with disbelief. And when I pursued white roles, skepticism persisted. "You're not white," they'd assert as if my very identity was up for debate. My dreams seemed to be slipping through my fingers, but I refused to give in.

Enter the turning point: I channeled my frustration into creation. With unwavering determination, I taught myself the art of camera operation, video editing, motion graphics, and visual effects. A new path was illuminated before me – I stepped into roles as a VFX artist, camera operator, writer, director, and editor.

Puppetry, a curiosity that had always tugged at my imagination, beckoned me—a pivotal moment arrived when I pitched a puppet-based concept to a potential client at age twenty-seven. "Can you create a puppet-centric commercial?" they inquired. My response? A resounding "Absolutely!" Here's the twist: I hadn't worked in puppetry before. But I embarked on an audacious journey, crafting three puppets from scratch and stepping into the main character's shoes (or strings). Magic happened, and I was hooked – every character I envisioned I could bring to life.

Fast forward to the vibrant streets of NYC, where my then-girlfriend and now-wife joined me. Initially, I aimed to delve into production, but destiny had a different plan. Puppets had captured my heart, and New York City turned out to be the ultimate puppetry playground. I dove headfirst into the world of puppetry, connecting with trailblazers and forging friendships within the puppetry scene.

Within just three years, I found myself at The Jim Henson Company, crafting puppets and props and serving as a puppet wrangler on none other than Sesame Street. The journey had come full circle, and I realized that the path I'd chosen was not just a career – it was a calling, a testament to resilience, and a celebration of boundless creativity.

So join me on this whimsical journey through puppetry, acting, artistry, and the magical world of entertainment. Together, let's paint smiles, ignite laughter, and create moments that linger in the hearts of all who encounter our unique brand of enchantment.

Stay curious, stay enchanted,

David Bizzaro
